Jan 3 - 06, 2017 Red Bay, Alabama - Part 1

Drove to Red Bay, Alabama.....MECCA for Tiffin Motorhomes! We have some issues to be addressed by the factory... Tiffin Service Campground is on an old airport runway... Not fancy, but we are not here to have fun, we are here to get our baby healed!!!

The town of Red Bay got its name from the "Red" clay in the area and the "Bay" tree  that is abundant in the area. We were wondering since there is no water around. Its population is 3,500. Tiffin employees about 1,500 directly and many more indirectly.

We took a tour of the Tiffin Motorhome manufacturing facility. They produce 12 motorhomes a day! Impressive operation, but were disappointed at how dirty the place is... Housekeeping is not important (something we take very seriously in construction). Nevertheless, they are making some absolutely beautiful coaches... it's hard to see them and not want one!!!

Chassis getting ready to roll into the production line...

Getting the base floor in...

Cabinets then go in...

Sidewalls, roof and slid outs...

Front and back caps...

Final wiring and inside details...

Ready for paint...

Finished product ready to ship!

It was very interesting... each one of these coaches gets somewhere between 2 and 3 miles of wiring and it takes 6 weeks to build from start to finish...

The company started in 1972... The earliest coach they still have here is a 1975...

Needless to say, we have come a long way!!!

More to come...
