CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK
This National Park is really impressive. Unfortunately a wild fire is burning on the west side of the park. Started outside the rim, but when we were there, the fire had spread into the rim. A lot of firefighters, airplanes and helicopters were working to put it out! The west rim road was closed due to the fire, so all the pictures we took were from the east rim road which encompasses about 80% around the lake.
However, the views were still stunning even with smoke present...
This was the caldera of a volcano that went extinct. The lake was filled through years of rain and snow. It is the deepest lake in the US at more than 1,900 feet deep and the water is considered the cleanest in the world.
